The Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) is a Protestant Christian denomination rooted in the Calvinist and Reformed traditions. It was founded in 1857 by Dutch immigrants who separated from the Reformed Church in America to preserve traditional Reformed theology and piety. The CRCNA emphasizes the sovereignty of God, the authority of the Bible, and salvation through grace alone. It holds to historic Reformed confessions—such as the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort—along with modern statements of faith like the Contemporary Testimony. Characterized by a strong commitment to Christian education, active community engagement, and global mission work, the denomination practices presbyterian (elder-led) church governance through local church councils, regional classes, and an annual synod.
