Growing in Christ... Sharing His Love...
Our Mission
Calvin Church believes that the mission of the church is found in Scripture. Two statements of Jesus provide us with five over-riding purposes of the church...
Love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. (Matthew 22:37–40)
Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’ (Matthew 28:18–20)
Our Purpose
With these purposes in mind we at Calvin Church strive to engage in a relationship with God and to offer our talents, energies, and work to God. We believe that to be a biblically sound and healthy church these five purposes of the church must be balanced. No single purpose or purposes can be over-emphasized to the detriment of others. We need to be equally committed to fulfilling all five of these tasks.
Worship
To love God and worship Him in communion with others.
Ministry
To help others in Jesus' name.
Evangelism
To tell others about Jesus.
Fellowship
To socialize, support, and care for one another
Discipleship
To help others become mature spiritually by being like Christ.
