Committees - Building & Grounds, Fellowship, Finance, Library, Tech
The Building & Grounds Committee meets on the 1st Monday of the odd months at 7:00 pm. This committee leads the church in the maintenance of the building, systems (including electrical, heating, mechanical, plumbing), and grounds to ensure the facilities are safe, in good repair, and the grounds are clean and in good appearance. Scott Huyser (current chair).
The Fellowship Committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the kitchen. We plan events to help promote fellowship within the congregation and also reach out to the community through our involvement with the food trucks during the year that are hosted by Calvin Church. We welcome new ideas/activities that we would organize that could help to promote friendship among members and visitors of our church. We also encourage you to join us as you are able to in this mission. Kathy Jansen (current chair).
The Finance Committee meets primarily in early October to review the proposed budget for the following year. Once agreed upon by committee members, it is presented to Council for their review and approval. Any other meetings that are necessary are scheduled as needed. We try to address some matters via email communication with committee members. Kathy Jansen (current chair).
The Library Committee meets every few months to clean out the library that is located in the Fireside Room. They also order and process books occasionally. The library has three sections of books: children's, adult fiction, and adult nonfiction. There are also a few DVDs as well as boxes with small-group study ideas (containing a book, study guide and related video). You can stop in anytime and browse the shelves. Lois Veenstra (current chair)
Hearts & Hands is a ministry that shows God's love to the Calvin Church family and the community. Baby baskets, get well baskets, sending cards, giving newlywed devotionals, coordinating lunches for Sacred Suds are just a few of the areas the committee is involved in. It is a very rewarding ministry to all who participate in it. If you would like more information or would like to be involved see Maryann Wolffis.
Mission Statement: Hearts & Hands exists to care for one another with kindness, compassion, encouragement and love.
Philosophy: We believe that this ministry is intended to respond to numerous commands in scripture to love one another (John 13:34); serve one another (Galatians 5:13); carry each other's burdens (Galatians 6:2); spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24); pray for one another (James 5:16); encourage each other (I Thessalonians 4:18); and to be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32). This caring ministry exists to coordinate efforts to follow these commands and encourage members of the Calvin family to respond to needs and reach out to each other in love.
Making Connections at Calvin is showing God's love to our members, friends and guests each Sunday morning. Volunteers for the following are always welcome: Greeter, Usher, Welcome Center desk, Coffee Fellowship server. If you would like to volunteer for one or more of these areas see Vickie in the office or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will get you connected.
Prayer Ministries are ongoing at Calvin. Prayer Group meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in the Fireside Room. You are always welcome to join us in prayer. Men s Prayer Breakfast meets at Russ on Henry St. on Wednesdays at 7:00 am for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours in the back Tel-n-dine room. They open it especially for us. We usually begin by discussing various fun and serious subjects. We then go through our prayer concerns sheet from the bulletin and adding any additional that we have heard about. Then someone has some Bible verses or devotional to read. After devotions we offer prayers for our church and whatever other concerns and praises we have on our minds. After our prayers, we order our breakfasts and enjoy a great social comradery. Please join us for wonderful Christian fellowship to start your Wednesdays with fellow Calvin members. Prayer Chain phone, email, Facebook. These are great ways to stay connected to the Calvin family and an excellent way to surround each other with prayer. If you would like to be added to any of these lists see Vickie in the office or email her at email@example.com.
